Child Rights: Where We’ve Come From, Where We Are, and Where We’re Going
The Tanzania Early Childhood Development Network (TECDEN) actively participated in the commemoration of the Day of the African Child, in collaboration with the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, development partners, civil society organizations, and communities at large. This participation reflects TECDEN’s commitment to advancing the agenda of children’s rights, protection, and well-being—particularly during the early years of life.
This year’s commemoration gave children themselves a central voice—emphasizing the importance of investing in early childhood care, development, and nurturing. Children highlighted their basic needs and shared their perspectives on their environment, shedding light on the responsibility of communities, parents, and caregivers to provide safe, loving, and supportive settings that foster holistic growth.
The event also strongly brought forth the call for inclusive participation of all children, especially those with special needs. A clear call to action was made for the urgent recognition, inclusion, and provision of quality services to children with disabilities or developmental challenges, ensuring they too have an equal chance to thrive.
TECDEN used this platform to showcase the progress made in implementing the National Multi-sectoral Early Childhood Development Programme (NMECDP 2021/22–2025/26), while calling on all stakeholders to intensify efforts to strengthen systems for nurturing care and integrated services. Only through multi-sectoral collaboration and actively listening to children’s voices can we build an equitable nation and a brighter future for every child.
Through its participation, TECDEN continues to position itself as a national voice for young children—driving strategic advocacy, strengthening stakeholder collaboration, and reinforcing the message that children form the foundation of our country’s sustainable development.
