The Mtoto Kwanza (“Child First”) Project is a strategic initiative (2022–2028) designed to accelerate the implementation of Tanzania’s National Multisectoral Early Childhood Development Programme (NM-ECDP) 2021/22–2025/26.

Operating across all 26 regions of mainland Tanzania, the project supports the transition of the national Early Childhood Development (ECD) framework from policy commitment to practical, community-level implementation. Its core aim is to ensure that every child is developmentally on track to reach their full potential through holistic care and coordinated multisectoral action.

Macro-level
Strengthening TECDEN’s capacity to lead and coordinate Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in monitoring and implementing the National Multisectoral Early Childhood Development Programme (NM-ECDP) at national level.
Meso-level
Building the capacity of local Civil Society Organizations to advocate for Early Childhood Development priorities and coordinate actions with regional and local government authorities.
Micro-level
Amplifying community voices through local media to generate demand for context-specific Early Childhood Development services and strengthen accountability at grassroots level.
