TECDEN from 28th and 29th of May 2024, at Nashera Hotel in Dodoma conducted Regional ECD Coordination Units (RCUs) from all 26 regions of mainland Tanzania. The training conducted by TECDEN in collaboration with EASUN Centre for Organizational learning and our TECDEN strategic member HAKIELIMU.
The primary objective of the workshop is to enhance the effectiveness of TECDEN coordination and networking mechanisms across various regions of Tanzania Mainland. By empowering the Regional Coordination Units (RCUs), TECDEN aims to ensure a more cohesive and efficient approach to Early Childhood Development (ECD) initiatives nationwide.
To facilitate smooth coordination of TECDEN members across the country, Regional ECD Coordination Units (RCUs) were established in each region of Tanzania Mainland. Each region has an appointed organization responsible for coordinating all matters related to Early Childhood Development at the regional level, functioning as an RCU. This decentralized approach allows for more localized and context-specific handling of ECD issues, ensuring that the unique needs of each region are adequately addressed.
Regional Coordination Units (RCUs) play a crucial role in ensuring the effective implementation of Early Childhood Development (ECD) initiatives across Tanzania. Their primary responsibilities include facilitating communication between TECDEN members, local government authorities, and stakeholders, as well as coordinating ECD programs to align with national strategies. RCUs oversee the progress of these programs through monitoring and evaluation, ensuring quality assurance, and building the capacity of local service providers. Additionally, they gather data, analyze outcomes, and prepare regular reports for the TECDEN Secretariat, maintaining transparency and accountability.
Moreover, RCUs manage the efficient use of resources, maintain accurate records, and ensure compliance with regulations. They are also tasked with addressing feedback from the community and stakeholders, responding to emergencies, and undertaking additional responsibilities as directed by the TECDEN Secretariat. Through these comprehensive roles, RCUs significantly contribute to the successful execution of TECDEN's mission, promoting cohesive and impactful ECD initiatives that benefit children across Tanzania Mainland.
